Para sports: building a playing field for every ability

India's para athletes have shown the world what is possible. Here is how we are working to give more young people with disabilities the chance to play.

Indian para athletes have achieved remarkable success on the world stage in recent years, inspiring millions. Yet for many young people with disabilities, simply finding a place to start playing remains a challenge.

The barriers are real

Inaccessible venues, a shortage of coaches trained in adaptive sport, the cost of specialised equipment and a lack of local competitions all hold talented athletes back. Families may also be unaware that their child can take part in sport at all.

What we are doing

  • Awareness: showing families, schools and communities that sport is for every ability.
  • Access: connecting para athletes with coaches and training opportunities.
  • Competition: including para categories in our events — starting with para taekwondo at the National Taekwondo Championship 2026.
